Trophy / Trophy Case
CultureDefinition
On Reddit, trophies are badge-style achievements the platform awards to recognise account milestones and contributions, and the trophy case is the section of a user's profile where those badges are displayed. They are purely cosmetic social signals: they confer no functional perks or extra abilities, serving instead as a visible record of an account's history and standing within the community.
Many trophies are earned automatically, such as the New User badge granted on sign-up, the Verified Email trophy, the Cake Day marker tied to an account's anniversary, and the various Year Club trophies (One-Year, Three-Year and beyond) awarded simply for an account's age. Rarer trophies recognise specific feats, including the White Hat badge for reporting security bugs and recognition for moderator-council membership, with secondary documentation describing on the order of several dozen distinct trophies in total, some long since discontinued and prized by collectors. The trophy case appears on the desktop profile card and, on mobile, under a profile's About tab. Trophies are a small example of how Reddit layers status and gamification onto its pseudonymous accounts, complementing the more consequential karma score.
