Verified Account / Verified User
RolesDefinition
A verified account on Reddit is a profile whose identity has been confirmed by the platform, indicated by a verified checkmark displayed next to the display name. Reddit describes verified profiles as an optional way for individuals, businesses, and organizations to confirm that they are who they claim to be. The checkmark appears across multiple surfaces, including profiles, community pages, post detail pages, search results, and ads. Some organizational profiles also carry a separate "Official" label, intended to reduce impersonation and signal a legitimate organization.
Importantly, verification on Reddit only confirms identity; it does not grant special privileges or exempt the account from community rules or moderator discretion. This distinguishes Reddit's system from the paid "blue check" models adopted by some other platforms. The feature has been rolled out gradually, initially through testing and a waitlist, as part of Reddit's broader effort to improve authenticity and encourage direct, trustworthy interaction between communities and real people or organizations. Because verification is relatively new and limited, the overwhelming majority of Reddit accounts remain unverified, and verification status is therefore a meaningful but uncommon signal of authenticity.
