DAUq (Daily Active Uniques)
BusinessDefinition
DAUq, or daily active uniques, is the headline user metric Reddit reports in its earnings and stock-market filings, used in place of the more common industry term "daily active users." In its 2024 registration statement, Reddit defined a daily active unique as a user it can identify with a unique identifier who has visited a page on the Reddit website or opened a Reddit application at least once during a 24-hour period.
The metric matters because of how it differs from a conventional active-user count: it includes both logged-in and logged-out visitors across web and apps, rather than only registered accounts, which can make the number larger and harder to compare directly with peers. Reddit reported an average of about 73.1 million daily active uniques globally for the final quarter of 2023, a figure that has grown substantially since. Because investor confidence and advertising value hinge on audience size, the precise definition of DAUq, and the inclusion of anonymous visitors, has been a subject of scrutiny, including questions from securities regulators during Reddit's path to going public.
