Reddit's own numbers
Reddit publishes periodic reports on government requests, copyright notices, content removals and enforcement. This page collects those figures in one place, quotes the sentence each one came from, and marks where figures are missing or were later revised.
A transparency report is a company's own account of how it handled outside demands and its own enforcement over a period. Reddit has published them annually since 2014, and moved to half-yearly reports from 2022. The earliest reports, covering 2014 to 2016, were posted on the reddit.com wiki; we cite the Wayback Machine copies of those pages, which are stable and readable without a Reddit login. Later reports live on Reddit's corporate site, which keeps an index of them at redditinc.com/policies/transparency.
These documents are useful because they are one of the few places where Reddit states numbers about its own conduct: how many governments asked for account information, how many copyright notices arrived, how much content its staff removed compared with volunteer moderators, how many accounts and communities it took action against. They are also limited in ways that are easy to miss, which is why this page is built the way it is.
Every number here is Reddit's own, self-reported figure. None of it has been independently audited, by us or, as far as these reports show, by anyone else. We have not estimated, adjusted or combined anything. Each figure sits next to the verbatim sentence it was taken from, so you can check our reading against Reddit's wording, and links to the report (plus an archived copy where one exists) are given in the table.
Gaps are shown as gaps. When a report does not give a figure, or gives it only in a chart image that states no number in text, the entry reads “Not reported” and the chart leaves a break at that period. A missing figure is never drawn as zero, because zero is a claim that nothing happened, and a report that is silent has not made that claim. We also do not add two half-years together to make a year, or derive a percentage from counts. If Reddit did not publish it, it is not here.
Annual and half-yearly figures sit in the same charts, marked in different colours. They are not comparable: a half-year count covers roughly half the time of an annual one, so a drop between a full-year bar and the half-year bar after it says nothing about a trend.
Reddit has not used a stable vocabulary. The category now filed here as government requests for account information was first described as “requests for user information”, later as “requests to produce account information”, then “requests for the disclosure of user account information”, and most recently as “standard legal requests for account information”. Other categories were renamed or re-split in similar ways. Where we judge the wording to describe the same thing, we map it to a single series so it can be followed over time, and we show the original wording in the quotation. That mapping is our editorial decision and it can be wrong at the edges; if a definition changed along with the name, the series is less continuous than the line suggests. Read the quoted sentence, not just the label.
A later report sometimes gives a different number for a period that an earlier report already covered. We treat the report published for that period as the period's own figure, and the charts plot only own-period figures. Any other report's number for the same metric and period is listed in the table with a “Restated in” badge and is not charted, so that a revision cannot silently overwrite what Reddit first said. The one exception: where a period's own report gives a figure only in a chart image, and a later report states it in text, the chart shows the later figure, labelled “first stated in” that report. The example in this dataset: for “Copyright notices received”, Reddit's 2016 report gives 3,294 notices for 2016; its 2018 report gives 1,155 notices for the same year. Where a later report explains the change, the explanation is set out in the note beside the figure; where it does not, we do not guess. The reader is left with two Reddit numbers for one period and should weigh the difference accordingly.
The reports are counts of what Reddit chose to measure and publish. Unless a particular report states it, they give no figures for how many reports from users or governments were ignored, how long Reddit took to act, how many decisions were wrong, or how many were reversed on appeal. A high “complied with” share does not tell you whether the requests were reasonable, and a rise in removals does not tell you whether enforcement improved or whether more content was posted. Counts also depend on definitions that Reddit sets and can change. Treat the charts as a record of what Reddit said about itself, and use them together with the independent evidence elsewhere on this site.
This page is separate from our Transparency page, which audits the links in our own citations rather than Reddit's reports. For other views of the archive see Data & Visualizations, the report-abuse enforcement gaps theme, and the regulation tracker, which covers the laws that require platforms to publish this kind of reporting. The figures on this page are also available as JSON at /api/export/transparency-metrics.

| 2015 | 98 requests | “(including emergency disclosure requests) received in 2015, as shown in the table below. 2014 2015 Number of requests for user information received 55 98” | Report wording: "Number of requests for user information received" (table columns 2014, 2015: 55, 98), described by the report as US and foreign requests "including emergency disclosure requests", a 78% increase. Combined basis: includes the 22 emergency requests; preservation requests are excluded. The non-emergency table total of 76 is on gov-info-requests. The 2016 and 2017 reports repeat the same 98 for 2015. | |
| 2016 | 170 requests | “In 2016, Reddit received 170 requests to disclose user account information from US and foreign law enforcement authorities, a 73% increase over the requests received in 2015.” | Report wording: "requests to disclose user account information". Breakdown given in the report: 131 requests from US law enforcement and 38 from foreign law enforcement, both including emergency disclosure requests; the report also mentions one real-time monitoring order. Preservation requests (41) are excluded. Combined basis: includes emergency requests (38); the report gives no separate non-emergency count, so this is not on gov-info-requests. | |
| 2017 | 231 requests | “In 2017, Reddit received a total of 231 requests to produce account information from both United States and foreign governmental entities.” | Report wording: "requests to produce account information". Includes emergency disclosure requests (US 41, foreign 14) and a real-time monitoring order; excludes the 79 preservation requests (the report's 310 government total = 79 preservation + 231 production). Combined basis: includes emergency requests; the report gives no global non-emergency count (it does state 24 foreign non-emergency requests, and no US non-emergency count), so this is not on gov-info-requests. | |

Components stated: 319 US non-emergency, 28 foreign non-emergency, 234 emergency; excludes 171 preservation requests. Combined basis: includes emergency requests; the report gives no combined non-emergency count (the US and foreign non-emergency counts are stated separately and not summed), so this is not on gov-info-requests.
| 2019 | 772 requests | “Reddit received a total of 772 requests for the disclosure of user account information from law enforcement or government entities in 2019.” | Report wording: "requests for the disclosure of user account information". Combined basis: 406 standard non-emergency requests (gov-info-requests) plus 366 emergency disclosure requests (emergency-disclosure-requests), as the report itself states. | 2015 | 53 requests | “Number of foreign government requests received 0 53” | Report wording: "Number of foreign government requests received" (table columns 2014, 2015). Foreign governments only; the report states no US federal or state takedown requests were received in 2014 or 2015. Includes duplicates (Russia: 10 requests plus 28 duplicate requests). | |
| 2016 | 21 requests | “Number of foreign government requests received 0 53 21” | Report wording: "Number of foreign government requests received" (table columns 2014, 2015, 2016). Foreign governments only (Russia 15 incl. 14 duplicates, Turkey 6). | |
| 2017 | 23 requests | “Reddit received a total of 23 requests to remove or restrict access to content from 4 foreign governmental entities.” | Foreign governments only (India 4, Portugal 1, Russia 5, United Kingdom 13). Content was blocked or removed for 17 of the 23 per the report's table; a percentage is not stated, so no complied-pct row. | |
| 2018 | 101 requests | “In 2018, Reddit received a total of 101 requests to remove or restrict access to content from 5 foreign governmental entities.” | Foreign governments only, non-copyright. The report separately states 1 request from a US governmental entity (not complied with); that is not added to the 101. | |
| 2019 | 110 requests | “In 2019, Reddit received a total of 110 requests from 12 law enforcement and other government entities to remove or restrict access to content on the platform.” | Government and law-enforcement requests, US and foreign. A Pakistani Telecommunications Authority report naming 3,842 subreddits is described in a note; the page text does not say how it is counted within the 110. | |
| 2020 | Not reported | “This section includes both court orders to remove content and requests submitted on behalf of governments to remove content.” | The 2020 report covers law enforcement/government requests to remove content but gives the volume only in "Chart 14. Government requests to remove content by country" (an image); no total appears in the page text. The Pakistan note (812 subreddits reported by the PTA) is one instance, not the total. | |
| 2021 | 292 requests | “In 2021, Reddit received 292 requests from law enforcement or government agencies to remove content from the platform, a 15% increase from 2020.” | Report wording: "requests from law enforcement or government agencies to remove content from the platform". 90% originated outside the US. The removal outcomes are in chart images only, so no compliance rate is recorded for 2021. | |
| H1 2022 | 214 requests | “In the first half of 2022, we received 214 requests from government and law enforcement agencies to remove content on Reddit” | Report wording: "requests from government and law enforcement agencies to remove content on Reddit that allegedly violated local law(s) and/or Reddit's Content Policy". | |
| H2 2022 | 212 requests | “In the second half of 2022, Reddit received 212 requests from government and law enforcement agencies in 20 countries around the world to remove content from the platform.” | Report wording: "requests from government and law enforcement agencies ... to remove content from the platform". The report says this is on par with H1 2022 (214). | |
| H1 2023 | 152 requests | “Reddit received 152 requests from government and law enforcement agencies from 19 countries around the world to remove content from the platform” | Report wording: "requests from government and law enforcement agencies … to remove content". Excludes private-party legal demands (99) and German NetzDG requests (1,266). | |
| H2 2023 | 121 requests | “Reddit received 121 requests from government and law enforcement agencies from 19 countries to remove content from the platform” | Report wording: "requests from government and law enforcement agencies … to remove content". | H1 2024 | 160 requests | “Reddit received 160 government and law enforcement requests from 26 countries to remove content from the platform” | Report wording: "government and law enforcement requests … to remove content". Excludes private-party legal demands (143). | |
| H2 2024 | 122 requests | “Reddit received 122 government or law enforcement agency requests from 18 countries to remove content from the platform” | Report wording: "government or law enforcement agency requests … to remove content". Excludes private-party legal demands (126). | |

| 2016 | 100% | “Number (percentage) of requests where we blocked content from IPs originating from that country / taken down N/A 11 (21%) 21 (100%)” | Report wording: "requests where we blocked content from IPs originating from that country / taken down" (21 of 21). Foreign government requests only. | |
| 2018 | Not reported | “Reddit’s response to these requests is outlined in the graph below.” | The foreign government removal-request outcomes are given only in a chart image; the page text states no compliance count or percentage. | |

Approximate figure ("~94%"); counts both Content Policy removals and geo-restrictions, so it is Reddit's action rate (full or partial), not a count of fully-complied requests.

Reddit's action rate on the requests, not a count of fully-complied requests; comparable in kind to the H1 2022 "~94%". |

| 2014 | 176 notices | “# of requests where user content was removed % of requests where user content was removed copyright 176” | Report wording: removal-request table row "copyright" (# of requests = 176). Counted as requests; the 2018 report later explains that pre-2018 DMCA counts were per piece of content, not per notice (see the restatement note at the top of this file). | |
| 2015 | Not reported | “we received a large number of requests for removal of content under the DMCA, which either did not comply with the requirements” | The 2015 report says it received a large number of DMCA requests but gives no 2015 count; it was still building tracking tools. It states only a partial figure for 1 January to 29 February 2016 (approximately 190 requests, 5% requiring removal), which is not a 2015 figure and is not used. | |
| 2016 | 3,294 notices Later restated in 2018 | “In 2016, Reddit received approximately 3294 copyright removal requests.” | Report wording: "approximately 3294 copyright removal requests" (approximate, stated as such). Counted per piece of content; the 2018 report restates 2016 as 1,155 DMCA notices (see reddit-2018-copyright-notices-2016). | |
| 2016 | 1,155 notices Restated in 2018 | “In 2016, Reddit received 1,155 DMCA notices, which resulted in 610 content removals.” | Restated in the 2018 report; conflicts with the 2016 report ("approximately 3294 copyright removal requests") and the 2017 report (3,294 notifications for 2016), which counted per piece of content. The same 610 is unchanged in number, but this report labels it "content removals" whereas the 2016 report counted it as requests where content was removed (kept on copyright-requests-actioned in reddit-2016-copyright-requests-actioned; not re-mapped onto copyright-removals). | |
| 2017 | 7,825 notices Later restated in 2018, 2019 | “In 2017, Reddit received 7,825 notifications of alleged copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act” | Report wording: "7,825 notifications of alleged copyright infringement". Counted per piece of content. The 2018 and 2019 reports restate the same period as 3,130 notices (see reddit-2018-copyright-notices-2017 and reddit-2019-copyright-notices-2017). | |
| 2017 | 3,130 notices Restated in 2018 | “In 2017, Reddit received 3,130 DMCA notices, which resulted in 4,352 content removals.” | Restated in the 2018 report; conflicts with the 2017 report, which said 7,825 notifications for 2017. The 2018 report explains that before 2018 each piece of content was counted as a distinct notice, and re-counts a multi-item notice as one. Removals (4,352) are unchanged. | |
| 2017 | 3,130 notices Restated in 2019 | “In 2017, Reddit received 3,130 copyright notices, which resulted in 4,352 content removals.” | Restated in the 2019 report; conflicts with the 2017 report, which said 7,825 notifications for 2017 (counted per piece of content). Same restated figure as the 2018 report. Removals (4,352) are unchanged. | |
| 2018 | 9,534 notices | “In 2018, Reddit received 9,534 DMCA notices, which resulted in 26,234 content removals.” | Report wording: "9,534 DMCA notices". From 2018 a notice counts once however many items it names; earlier reports counted per item, so 2016-2017 figures are not comparable (see the restatement rows). | |
| 2019 | 34,989 notices | “In 2019, Reddit received 34,989 copyright notices, which resulted in 170,684 pieces of content being reviewed, and 124,257 content removals.” | Report wording: "34,989 copyright notices". The report attributes the large rise to notices from adult-entertainment requesters and to notices targeting content already removed. | |
| 2020 | 86,866 notices | “In 2020, Reddit received 86,866 copyright notices, reviewed 517,054 pieces of content, and removed 375,774 pieces of content.” | Report wording: "copyright notices". Also reviewed 517,054 pieces of content. The report repeats the 2019 (34,989) and 2018 (9,534) notice counts, identical to the 2019 and 2018 reports. | |
| 2021 | 177,450 notices | “In 2021, Reddit received 177,450 copyright notices reporting 920,672 pieces of content.” | Report wording: "copyright notices". These reported 920,672 pieces of content; the report states a 104% increase from 2020. | |
| H1 2022 | 176,959 notices | “From January to June of 2022, Reddit received 176,959 copyright notices reporting 738,010 pieces of content.” | Report wording: "copyright notices". These reported 738,010 pieces of content. | |
| H2 2022 | 77,673 notices | “From July to December of 2022, we received 77,673 copyright notices requesting the removal of 930,442 pieces of content.” | Report wording: "copyright notices". These requested removal of 930,442 pieces of content. The report says notices fell 56% against H1 2022. | |
| H1 2023 | 83,937 notices | “we received 83,937 copyright notices seeking the removal of 949,208 pieces of content” | Report wording: "copyright notices". | |
| H2 2023 | 67,493 notices | “we received 67,493 copyright takedown notices requesting the removal of 779,628 pieces of content” | Report wording: "copyright takedown notices". | |

This is a count of REQUESTS that led to a removal, not of pieces of content removed; the report gives no item count, so it is not on copyright-removals. The page flattens the table to "copyright 176 66 38%": 66 is the second figure of the copyright row.
| 2016 | 610 requests | “Reddit was required to remove content from the platform in response to 610 of the above requests (19%).” | Report wording: removal "in response to 610 of the above requests (19%)" - a count of requests, not pieces of content, so it is on copyright-requests-actioned and not copyright-removals. The 2018 report relabels the same 610 as "content removals" (see reddit-2018-copyright-notices-2016); the relabel is not mapped onto copyright-removals. |

| 2018 | Not reported | “Pieces of Content Removed from Reddit” | The section 'Pieces of Content Removed from Reddit' gives the moderator and administrator removal counts only inside a pie-chart image; the page text states no number. Not transcribed from the image. | |
| 2019 | 53,047,580 | “53,047,580 pieces of content were removed by Reddit Admins in 2019.” | Includes content removed for spam and other scaled content manipulation; excludes copyright and other legal removals. Of this, only 222,309 pieces were removed for Content Policy violations excluding spam and manipulation. | |
| 2021 | Not reported | “Admins also regularly remove content from Reddit to enforce the Content Policy and protect the integrity of the site.” | The 2021 report gives admin content removals only as shares ("admins were responsible for 37% of all removals"; 91.8% content manipulation / 8.2% Content Policy) and in Charts 4-5 (images). No absolute count appears in the page text. | |
| 2022 | Not reported | “Admins also regularly remove content from Reddit to enforce the Content Policy and protect the integrity of the platform.” | The 2022 report gives admin content removals only as shares and in chart images (Charts 4-5): of 316,781,583 posts, comments and PMs removed in 2022 (around 7% of 4,285,651,509 shared), "Admins were responsible for 39% of these removals". No absolute admin count is stated; the page text never multiplies it out. | |
| H2 2025 | 54,399,238 | “Admins removed 54,399,238 posts & comments and were exclusively responsible for the removals of violating private messages (27,631) and chat messages (2,394,233).” | Report wording: "Admins removed 54,399,238 posts & comments". Scope: posts and comments only. Private messages (27,631) and chat messages (2,394,233) are stated separately and are not added in; the 2019 admin-removals row states "pieces of content" with no posts-and-comments restriction, so the two may not be like-for-like. The report says the majority of admin removals across content types were for spam (54%). H1 2023 to H1 2025 reports state no equivalent absolute admin-removal total (only shares of removals and PM/chat counts). |

| 2018 | Not reported | “The vast majority of content removals on Reddit are executed within individual subreddits by subreddit moderators” | The report text says moderators carry out the vast majority of removals but gives the count only inside a chart image. Not transcribed from the image. | |
| 2019 | 84,140,588 | “In 2019, Mods removed 84,140,588 pieces of content from Reddit.” | The report text does not say whether AutoModerator ("automated actions set and configured by Mods", defined in a footnote to Chart 2) is included in this figure. Described as the vast majority of non-spam removals. | |
| 2020 | Not reported Figure given in 2021 | “The volume of content that was removed by moderators is broken down below by whether a removal was performed proactively by a mod or Automod” | The 2020 report breaks moderator removals down in "Chart 2. Pieces of content removed by moderators in 2020" (an image); the text gives only the growth ("rose notably in 2020, by nearly 61%"), not the count. The report states its removal figures include AutoMod. The 2021 report quotes the 2020 total as 148,137,254 (see reddit-2021-mod-removals-2020). | |
| 2020 | 148,137,254 First stated in the 2021 report | “The absolute volume of removals by moderators rose by nearly 20% in 2021 from 148,137,254 to 175,860,440, with 58.9% of these removals being proactive Automod removals.” | Restated in the 2021 report; not a conflict. This is the 2020 base the 2021 report uses for its year-over-year change; the 2020 report itself gives the 2020 moderator-removal total only in a chart image. Includes AutoMod/bot removals, as the 2021 report does. | |
| 2021 | 175,860,440 | “The absolute volume of removals by moderators rose by nearly 20% in 2021 from 148,137,254 to 175,860,440, with 58.9% of these removals being proactive Automod removals.” | Report wording: "removals by moderators". The report says its figures include AutoMod and some bespoke moderator-built bots; 58.9% were proactive AutoMod removals, so this number merges mod and automated mod-tool removals. | |
| 2022 | Not reported | “Notably, mod removals can be based on any reason specific to the rules of a given community, and are not necessarily an indication of content being in violation of Reddit’s Content Policy” | The 2022 report gives moderator removals only as shares ("accounted for 58% of all content removed", "increased by 4.7% compared to 2021", roughly 69% proactive AutoMod) and in Chart 3 (an image). No absolute count appears in the page text. Includes AutoMod and bespoke mod bots. |

| 2022 | 14.5% | “14.5% were granted and the remaining 85.5% were denied.” | Share of the account-level appeals granted (report's own percentage); the report says the reversal rate fell because of the low actionability of spam-related appeals. | |
| H1 2023 | 14% | “The account sanction reversal rate remained fairly stable at 14% compared to the last reporting period.” | Report wording: "account sanction reversal rate"; the report defines appeals as either granted (reinstatement) or denied, so reversal rate is used as the granted share. Applies to the appeals described in the same paragraph (content-level and account-level); the report gives no separate account-level rate, so it is not strictly like-for-like with the 2023 account-level reversal rates. | |
| H2 2024 | 18.6% | “averages around 18.6% for both appeal types combined” | Report wording: "success rate of these appeals and consequently the reversal of the sanction issued". Content-level and account-level appeals combined; no separate account-level rate is given. | |

| H2 2025 | Not reported | “so a decrease in granted appeals indicates our automated tools are making the right call more often” | The share of appeals granted appears only in the report's appeal charts (Charts 22 to 25, images). | 2020 | Not reported | “Different types of account sanctions are applied for behavior that violates a given policy.” | The 2020 report covers admin account sanctions (warnings, 3- and 7-day bans, permanent bans) only in Charts 10-12, which are images; no total appears in the page text. The report notes multiple sanctions can fall on one account, so the (unstated) total would count sanctions: unit "suspensions" kept for series consistency. | |
| 2021 | Not reported | “Different types of account sanctions are applied for behavior that violates a given policy.” | The 2021 report gives the total of temporary and permanent admin account suspensions only in chart images (Charts 17-19). The text states only a chat-specific figure (633,148 accounts suspended after chat flags, not a site-wide total) and that content manipulation and spam are 87% of all sanctions. The (unstated) total counts temporary and permanent suspensions: unit "suspensions" for series consistency. | |
| 2022 | 6,195,381 suspensions | “In 2022, admins handed out 6,195,381 temporary and permanent account suspensions.” | Report wording: "temporary and permanent account suspensions" (temporary and permanent combined). The report adds that multiple sanctions can be applied to a single account, so this counts suspensions (unit "suspensions"), not unique accounts. | |
| H1 2023 | 3,578,733 suspensions | “admins handed out 3,578,733 temporary and permanent account suspensions” | Report wording: "temporary and permanent account suspensions". Counts sanctions (temporary and permanent combined), not distinct accounts: the report notes multiple sanctions can be applied to a single account. | |
| H2 2023 | 3,930,885 suspensions | “admins handed out 331,072 account warnings, as well as 3,930,885 temporary and permanent account bans” | Report wording: "temporary and permanent account bans" (account warnings, 331,072, are counted separately and excluded here). Counts sanctions, not distinct accounts: the report notes multiple sanctions can be applied to a single account. | |
| H1 2024 | 4,410,615 suspensions | “admins handed out 821,332 account warnings, as well as 4,410,615 temporary and permanent account bans” | Report wording: "temporary and permanent account bans" (account warnings, 821,332, are counted separately and excluded here). Counts sanctions, not distinct accounts. | |
| H2 2024 | 4,101,197 suspensions | “admins handed out 798,681 account warnings, as well as 4,101,197 temporary and permanent account bans” | Report wording: "temporary and permanent account bans" (account warnings, 798,681, are counted separately and excluded here). Counts sanctions, not distinct accounts. The report says it reclassified ban-evasion actions "that were improperly captured as spam in previous reporting periods" and that "The sanction totals and percentages by rule represented in Chart 22 are impacted by this change"; the page does not say how the reclassification affects the headline ban count above. | |
| H1 2025 | 2,613,473 suspensions | “Admins handed out 1,055,711 account warnings, as well as 2,613,473 temporary and permanent account bans” | Report wording: "temporary and permanent account bans" (account warnings, 1,055,711, are counted separately and excluded here). Counts sanctions, not distinct accounts. | |
| H2 2025 | 3,181,420 suspensions | “Temporary and permanent account bans increased by roughly 21% (3,181,420 total)” | Report wording: "Temporary and permanent account bans … (3,181,420 total)"; account warnings (1,097,979) are counted separately and excluded here. Counts sanctions, not distinct accounts. |

| 2019 | 55,994 accounts | “In addition, 55,994 accounts were suspended by Reddit Admins in 2019 for Content Policy violations (excluding spam and other types of content manipulation at scale).” | Accounts suspended by Admins for Content Policy violations only (a subset: excludes spam and other content manipulation at scale). The report separately states the content-manipulation figure (reddit-2019-accounts-suspended-content-manipulation) and gives no combined total, so this is not on the all-reasons accounts-suspended series. Suspension type (permanent or temporary) is not specified. |

| 2020 | 131,058 subreddits First stated in the 2021 report | “This represents a 207% increase on last year’s figure (131,058), however, the majority of subreddits removed (96%) were unmoderated communities” | Restated in the 2021 report; not a conflict. The 2021 report gives 131,058 as the 2020 count of communities admins removed; the 2020 report states no count in its text. Basis: all reasons, not a Content-Policy-only subset. The 2021 report sets it directly against its all-reasons 2021 figure (402,457, a 207% increase on 131,058) and says the majority (96%) of the 2021 removals were unmoderated communities or content manipulation (e.g. spam), so it stays on subreddits-banned. The report does not itself break the 131,058 down by reason. | |
| 2021 | 402,457 subreddits | “In 2021, admins removed 402,457 communities.” | Report wording: "admins removed 402,457 communities", all reasons (96% were unmoderated communities or content manipulation such as spam). Not the same as the copyright-only subreddit bans (2,625 in 2021). | |
| 2022 | 1,384,911 subreddits | “In 2022, admins banned 1,384,911 communities, representing a 244% increase over last year’s figure (402,457).” | Report wording: "admins banned 1,384,911 communities", all reasons; the report attributes the rise largely to enforcement against spam communities. Not the same as the copyright-only subreddit bans (3,215 in 2022). | |
| H1 2023 | 488,216 subreddits | “admins banned 488,216 communities (newly created and existing) for content policy violations” | Report wording: "communities … banned" by admins. Includes spam-related bans; the report gives 223,273 for non-spam reasons. | |
| H2 2023 | 640,685 subreddits | “admins banned 640,685 communities (newly created and existing) for Content Policy violations” | Report wording: "communities … banned" by admins. Includes spam-related bans; the report gives 183,836 for non-spam reasons. | |
| H1 2024 | 676,010 subreddits | “admins banned 676,010 communities (newly created and existing) for Content Policy violations” | Report wording: "communities … banned" by admins. Includes spam-related bans (75.1%); the report gives 168,560 for non-spam reasons. | |
| H2 2024 | 491,544 subreddits | “admins banned 491,544 communities (newly created and existing) for Reddit Rules violations” | Report wording: "communities … banned" by admins. Includes spam-related bans (70.8%). The report's stated 21.8% decrease versus the preceding period does not reconcile with the 676,010 figure in the H1 2024 report (that would be about 27%); the report states no restated H1 2024 figure. | |
| H1 2025 | 430,544 subreddits | “Admins banned 430,544 communities (newly created and existing) for Reddit Rules violations” | Report wording: "communities … banned" by admins. Includes spam-related bans (73.4%). | |

The report separately states 98,899 communities removed for content manipulation (reddit-2019-subreddits-banned-content-manipulation) and 137 subreddits removed under the copyright Repeat Infringer policy; it gives no combined total, so this is not on the all-reasons subreddits-banned series. |
