The Front Page / r/all
CultureDefinition
"The front page" is Reddit's main landing view of top posts, and the phrase "the front page of the internet" became the company's longtime tagline, capturing its role as a place where the day's most-voted content surfaces. Historically, r/all was the unfiltered, sitewide feed aggregating the highest-ranking posts from across nearly all public communities, regardless of which subreddits a user subscribed to. It functioned as a real-time pulse of the platform: making it to r/all meant a post had broken out of its home community and reached mass visibility, and r/popular offered a similar but more curated, advertiser-friendly version that excluded certain NSFW and niche content.
On Reddit, reaching the front page or r/all was a major driver of virality, traffic, and the spread—sometimes the amplification—of controversies, hoaxes, and viral moments far beyond their origin subreddits. In April 2025, Reddit deprecated r/all, redirecting visitors toward an algorithmically personalized Home feed as part of a broader shift away from chronological, vote-ranked discovery toward machine-learning curation designed to keep users engaged longer. The old r/all remained reachable through the legacy old.reddit.com interface, but its removal marked a significant change to how content goes viral on the site and reignited debate over algorithmic feeds versus community-driven ranking.
