Moderation Log
ModerationDefinition
The moderation log, or mod log, is the record of moderator actions taken within a Reddit community, including bans, content removals and approvals. It also surfaces actions taken by Reddit administrators and by the AutoModerator bot, giving a community's team a single chronological view of who did what. The log is especially useful for large teams, where it helps identify which moderator carried out a particular action.
The mod log matters as the primary transparency-and-accountability tool inside a community. Reddit treats monitoring it as a core part of a moderator's routine, and it is where a contested removal or ban can be investigated after the fact. The log retains data for up to ninety days and can be filtered by time range, by individual moderator, by admin, AutoModerator or Reddit actions, and searched by username. Its existence means that, within a team, moderation is not anonymous, even though ordinary users cannot see the log, which is part of why disputes about hidden or unaccountable moderation often turn on who has access to it.
