Mod Queue
ModerationDefinition
The mod queue is the working list of items awaiting moderator review in a Reddit community. Posts and comments land in it when they are reported by users, caught by AutoModerator rules, held by spam or safety filters, or otherwise flagged by the platform. From the queue, a moderator can approve, remove, or take further action on each item.
The queue is the operational heart of day-to-day moderation. It is where automated systems and human judgement meet: filters and bots surface candidates, but a person decides the outcome, and the size and speed of the queue reflect how much work a volunteer team is carrying. It matters to governance debates because the queue is where most enforcement actually happens, quietly and at scale, long before any high-profile ban. A backlog can mean harmful content stays up longer, while overly aggressive filters can flood the queue and lead to over-removal, so the queue's health is a useful proxy for whether a community's moderation is sustainable.
