Novelty Account

A novelty account is a user account built around a single gimmick rather than ordinary participation. The owner posts only in a recognisable style or on a recurring theme, for example always replying in rhyme, correcting a particular mistake, telling a specific kind of joke, or impersonating a famous figure. The username usually advertises the bit so others recognise the account when it appears.

Novelty accounts are a distinctive part of Reddit culture, where a well-executed gimmick can earn karma and a small following each time it lands in a relevant thread. They are generally tolerated as harmless entertainment, but they sit close to lines moderators care about: an account that spams the same low-effort joke can be treated as karma farming, and an impersonation account can cross into harassment or deception. The concept matters because it shows how the platform's reward and identity systems shape behaviour, encouraging users to cultivate a memorable persona.
