Repost Bot / Karma Bot

A repost bot, sometimes called a karma bot, is an automated Reddit account that reposts old, previously popular content, often copying both a successful post and its top comments word for word from an earlier high-scoring thread, in order to accumulate karma with minimal effort. The goal is to make the account appear established and trustworthy so it can pass the karma thresholds many communities set before allowing posts or comments.

These bots matter because the aged, high-karma accounts they create are a commodity. They are frequently sold on marketplaces or repurposed for spam, advertising, scams and influence or content-farming campaigns, which is why karma farming sits close to several behaviours the platform's rules forbid. Academic research has documented a substantial economy in the buying and selling of social-media accounts, including tens of thousands of accounts marketed across multiple marketplaces, while community investigations have captured striking cases of entire threads being reposted comment by comment months later. Repost and karma bots therefore connect the seemingly trivial pursuit of internet points to real harms around authenticity, manipulation and trust on the platform.
