RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite)
TechnicalDefinition
Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) is a free, open-source, community-built browser extension that adds a wide range of features to the Reddit website. Available for browsers including Chrome, Firefox, and Opera, it has been used by well over a million people and offers tools such as Never-Ending Reddit (infinite scrolling), keyboard navigation for voting and browsing, inline image and media viewing, user tagging, account switching, and extensive display customization. It is an unofficial project, not made or run by Reddit, originally created by developer Steve Sobel ("honestbleeps").
RES became a defining part of the "old Reddit" power-user experience and a key example of the third-party tooling that grew around Reddit's open platform. It is designed to work on old.reddit.com, and most of its functionality does not carry over to Reddit's newer redesign, which made it emblematic of the divide between long-time users who prefer the legacy interface and Reddit's push toward its modern site and official app. RES has entered a maintenance-focused mode, with limited new development, reflecting the broader uncertainty facing third-party Reddit tools after the platform's interface changes and 2023 API restrictions.
