ShitRedditSays (SRS)
CultureDefinition
ShitRedditSays, abbreviated SRS, was a meta-community that collected and criticised upvoted comments from elsewhere on Reddit which its members regarded as bigoted or offensive. Originally framed as drawing attention to such content, it became known for a combative, mocking style and is widely described as largely defunct in its later years.
SRS is significant in Reddit's history because it became a lightning rod in debates about brigading and harassment. Critics accused it of mobilising members to downvote and pile onto linked users, while supporters argued it was holding the platform's majority culture to account. That dispute, whether a community devoted to surfacing bad content is itself coordinating interference, prefigured the same tensions later seen around groups like AgainstHateSubreddits. SRS therefore matters as an early case study in how Reddit struggled to apply its anti-brigading rules evenly to politically charged meta-communities on different sides of a fight.
