Sticky / Pinned Post
ModerationDefinition
A sticky, or pinned post, is a submission that a moderator fixes to the top of a subreddit's feed so it stays visible above the normal vote-ranked listing. A community can usually pin a limited number of posts at once, and admins can pin announcements site-wide in comparable ways. Pinning overrides the default sorting for that one item rather than changing the algorithm.
Stickies are a core moderation tool for setting the agenda of a community. They are used for rules and welcome guides, recurring weekly threads, live-event megathreads, AMAs and time-sensitive announcements that would otherwise sink as fresh content arrives. The feature matters because it gives moderators an explicit, transparent lever over what newcomers see first, concentrating discussion where the team wants it and reducing duplicate posts, while also raising fairness questions when a pinned message pushes a particular viewpoint to the top of every visitor's view.
