Having first introduced its AI-powered Reddit Answers feature in late 2024, Reddit made the conversational search experience global in 2025, expanding it well beyond its initial English-only, US-focused beta. The company rolled out support for five major additional languages — French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese — across key international markets including Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy, and extended availability to new countries such as India, which was among the first to gain access. Reddit Answers synthesizes responses to user questions by drawing on the platform's vast trove of human discussion.
The global expansion fit CEO Steve Huffman's framing of search as a core 2025 investment, one he said helps new users 'find their home on Reddit' while opening fresh monetization avenues. By 2025 Reddit's overall search drew more than 70 million weekly users, with the newer AI-driven Answers attracting several million more. The push positioned Reddit to compete directly in AI-powered search at a moment when its human-authored content had become some of the most sought-after training and grounding data on the internet, complementing its lucrative data-licensing deals with OpenAI and Google.
