Biography
Doreen Ford was a moderator of the r/antiwork subreddit, a labour-focused Reddit community that had grown to roughly 1.7 million members by early 2022. In January 2022 Ford appeared on the Fox News program hosted by Jesse Watters, who introduced her as the person operating r/antiwork. During the widely mocked interview Ford discussed the antiwork philosophy and described earning money walking dogs for roughly twenty to twenty-five hours a week. The appearance drew heavy backlash, in part because Ford had agreed to the interview over the objections of other moderators and without consulting the wider community. Within days the subreddit briefly went private amid an influx of hostile users, and the moderation team announced Ford's removal as a moderator. The episode is frequently cited as an example of how a single moderator's public representation of a large community can trigger its fracture, and it preceded the migration of many users to a successor subreddit.
