Biography
Lillian Lee is the Charles Roy Davis Professor of computer science and of information science at Cornell University and a senior figure in natural-language processing and computational social science. She is a co-author of 'Winning Arguments,' the 2016 study that analysed Reddit's r/changemyview community to identify the interaction dynamics and linguistic strategies associated with successfully changing another person's view in good-faith online debate. Her publications page lists the paper and describes it as an analysis of the ChangeMyView subreddit, confirming her authorship. Over a long career she has contributed foundational work on sentiment analysis, conversational language, and the structure of online discourse, and she has helped train many researchers now active in the field. The r/changemyview study is among the most influential pieces of computational research using Reddit as a window into how persuasion works at scale online.
