Researcher (online extremism); co-author of The Pushshift Reddit Dataset
F-Secure (formerly SPLC; formerly Elon University)
Biography
Megan Squire is a data scientist who studies online extremism, far-right communities, and coordinated influence campaigns. She is a principal threat-intelligence researcher at the security firm F-Secure, and previously held a data-analytics leadership role at the Southern Poverty Law Center and a tenured computer-science professorship at Elon University, where she was also an Anti-Defamation League Belfer Fellow. She has authored several books and dozens of peer-reviewed papers. She is a listed co-author of 'The Pushshift Reddit Dataset' (ICWSM 2020) and of the companion Pushshift Telegram dataset, both of which have been widely used to study extremism, disinformation, and online social movements. Her broader work analysing how hate and extremist movements organise across platforms makes Reddit, as a frequent staging ground for such communities, a recurring object of her data-driven research.
