What changed
In February 2024, ahead of its IPO, Reddit confirmed a roughly $60 million-per-year content-licensing deal with Google to train AI models on Reddit posts, followed months later by a similar OpenAI agreement. The deals codified Reddit's stance that commercial AI use of its user-generated corpus must be paid and contractually licensed.
