H2 2025 transparency report: community bans and account sanctions increase

Reddit's transparency report for July–December 2025 states admins "banned 605,570 communities (newly created and existing) for Reddit Rules violations," which "represents a 40.47% increase compared to the preceding 6-month period." "Spam makes up the overwhelming majority of ban reasons in this period (76.7%), while the remaining bans were for non-spam related violations," and those remaining bans were "largely due to communities being unmoderated (98.4% of the remaining bans)." Over the same period "temporary and permanent account bans increased by roughly 21% (3,181,420 total)," and the report says "we saw a 66.6% decrease in granted appeals." The report also states that expanding "automated systems to support enforcement against hate and harassment" during the period "led to significant increases (+200%) in related actions."
