What changed
The Moderator Code of Conduct version effective June 5, 2025 prohibits moderators from taking moderation actions 'in exchange for any form of compensation, consideration, gift, or favor from or on behalf of third parties' — covering cash, NFTs, stock, gift cards, and purchasable Reddit goods. The enforcement ladder runs from removal of individual moderators to banning entire communities, and Rule 5 became the basis invoked in later paid-promotion moderator removals such as the 2026 r/LivestreamFail case.
