old.reddit.com begins requiring a login

Announced June 30, 2026 on r/modnews and rolled out 'over the next month': the legacy old.reddit.com interface now requires a login, ending logged-out reading of the site's original design. Reddit framed the wall as protection against 'abusive scraping and automated traffic,' declined to promise the interface would exist forever, and shipped it after earlier tests walling off the logged-out mobile web.
