Internet Law No. 5651

On or around November 14, 2015, Turkish authorities briefly blocked access to Reddit under Internet Law No. 5651, which permits banning sites suspected of hosting obscene, pirated, or otherwise objectionable content. Officials cited 'technical analysis and legal consideration' as justification. The block was short-lived, with access restored within roughly a day, and was relatively easy to circumvent by changing DNS settings. It was a temporary site-wide block rather than a sustained ban. The episode foreshadowed Turkey's later, more targeted use of the same law against specific Reddit content.
