Summary
Tennessee's HB 1891, effective Jan. 1, 2025, requires social-media platforms to verify the age of all users and obtain parental consent for those under 18. On Oct. 3, 2024 NetChoice - whose members include Reddit - filed NetChoice v. Skrmetti in the Middle District of Tennessee; the court denied a preliminary injunction in June 2025 (on ripeness grounds, not the merits), and NetChoice appealed to the Sixth Circuit.
