The Effect of Bots on Human Interaction in Online Communities

Analyzes almost 70 million Reddit posts to measure how bots change human-to-human interaction, distinguishing reflexive bots (delegated by participants) from supervisory bots (delegated by moderators). Reflexive bot activity reduces direct reciprocity and increases generalized reciprocity; supervisory bot activity reduces preferential attachment among human participants.
