Summary
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts, Kyle Svara, 27, of Oswego, Illinois, was sentenced on July 21, 2026, by U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy to 76 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He had pleaded guilty in February 2026 to aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, computer fraud, conspiracy to commit computer fraud and false statements related to child pornography, after being charged in December 2025. The office said that from at least May 2020 to February 2021 Svara collected victims' email addresses, phone numbers and Snapchat usernames, then used anonymized phone numbers to pose as a Snap Inc. representative and text more than 4,500 people asking for their Snapchat access codes. Approximately 570 women provided codes. The sentencing release says he accessed the accounts of approximately 517 women without permission to download nude or semi-nude images, up from the "at least 59" women alleged when he was first charged. The Reddit connection is that, according to the release, he advertised on internet forums like Reddit that he could "get into girls snap accounts" for others and provide content "for you or trade," and the release reproduces one of his Reddit advertisements, posted in a forum it describes as dedicated to "wifepictrading." He sold or traded the stolen images on internet forums or in transactions with others who had hired him to hack the accounts. Svara also lied to investigators about his interest in child sexual abuse material; the office said investigators later found that he had collected, distributed and solicited it. The case was announced by the U.S. Attorney and the FBI in Boston, with assistance from the FBI in Chicago and the Oswego Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Cleary prosecuted it. Cybernews also reported that he offered his services on platforms like Reddit. The records reviewed do not say whether Reddit took any action regarding the posts.
