Crime type
Sharing or threatening to share intimate images of a person without their consent (non-consensual intimate imagery).
Non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII) is the sharing, or the threat of sharing, of sexual or intimate images of a person without their consent. It is sometimes called image-based sexual abuse, and the term revenge porn is also used in everyday speech, although it can suggest a motive that is not always present. This page covers criminal cases of that kind in which a Reddit connection is documented in the record, for example where images were posted to a Reddit account or community.
Where the images were obtained by unauthorised access to an account or device, the charge may concern the access as well as the sharing. Where the people shown were minors, the matter is a child-exploitation case and is listed under CSAM. Victims are never named in this tracker, and entries describe the conduct in clinical, non-graphic terms. Each entry reports the charge, the court, the status, and the sentence as the sources state them. Outcomes that are still unresolved are flagged as such, and a charge is an accusation, not a finding.
This tracker currently lists 2 cases in the ncii category. By latest recorded status: 2 sentenced. The cases are dated from 2019 to 2026. They were brought in 2 distinct jurisdictions in the United States. A status of charged is an accusation, not a finding of guilt.
Aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, computer fraud, conspiracy to commit computer fraud and false statements related to child pornography
Cyberstalking (posting a woman's intimate photos online without consent)
There is a civil remedy in federal law: 15 U.S.C. § 6851, which allows an individual whose intimate visual depiction is disclosed without their consent, where the discloser knew or recklessly disregarded that the person had not consented, to bring a civil action. It is a civil provision and does not itself create a criminal offence, so a civil claim and a criminal prosecution are different proceedings with different outcomes.
Federal criminal charges in this area have been brought under the stalking statute, 18 U.S.C. § 2261A, where the sharing or threatened sharing of images forms part of a course of conduct that places a person in reasonable fear or causes substantial emotional distress. The TAKE IT DOWN Act (Pub. L. 119-12, enacted 19 May 2025) also created federal criminal offences for knowingly publishing authentic or digitally forged intimate images without consent (47 U.S.C. § 223(h)), and requires covered platforms to remove reported images within 48 hours of a valid request.
U.S. states have their own criminal statutes aimed at the non-consensual disclosure of intimate images, which differ in how they define the offence, in the intent they require, and in the penalties; cases can be prosecuted at the state level. Cases outside the United States follow the law of the prosecuting country. This overview is general background and not legal advice, and it is not a statement about the guilt of any person listed on this page.
A case appears under non-consensual intimate imagery only where there is a documented Reddit nexus. That means the defendant used Reddit to commit, coordinate, advertise, or first draw law-enforcement attention to the offence, or that a Reddit CyberTip, a subpoena response, or a direct report to the police or the FBI produced the charge. The bar is deliberately strict. A widely reported case is excluded unless the Reddit connection is documented in the charging papers, court records, or contemporaneous reporting; simply holding a Reddit account is not enough, and incidents that actually ran through Discord, Telegram, or other platforms are left out rather than stretched to fit.
The status shown on each entry reflects the newest official document the tracker has located, such as an indictment, a plea agreement, a verdict, or a sentencing judgment, and it can lag behind later developments. A status of charged records an accusation only: a charge is not a finding of guilt, and every person charged is presumed innocent unless and until convicted or until they plead guilty. Entries marked charged are therefore labelled as alleged. Victims are never named, and where a victim is described at all the description is limited to what is needed to understand the charge. If an entry is out of date, incomplete, or wrong, use the corrections page to report it.
This category is limited to cases whose central allegation is the sharing, or the threat of sharing, of intimate images without consent. A demand for money or further images that is coupled with a threat to share is listed under sextortion, and cases involving minors under CSAM. Each case carries a single category, so a matter involving several kinds of conduct is listed on only one hub.
