Crime type
Trafficking or selling controlled substances through darknet markets, with Reddit used to advertise or coordinate.
Darknet markets are online marketplaces, reached through anonymising software, on which vendors sell controlled substances and other goods in exchange for cryptocurrency. This page covers criminal cases about trafficking or selling controlled substances through such markets in which Reddit was used to advertise, coordinate, or discuss the operation, and in which that connection is documented in the record. Cases appear here because of the documented Reddit link, not because they concern darknet markets in general.
The Reddit connection in this category can take forms such as forums used to promote a market or a vendor, to build a reputation, to resolve disputes between buyers and sellers, or to share information about a market's operation. Evidence in these matters can include blockchain analysis, shipping and payment records, server seizures, and account records obtained through legal process. The entries below report the charge, the court, the status, and the sentence as stated by the sources, and they do not generalise from one case to another.
This tracker currently lists 7 cases in the darknet-drugs category. By latest recorded status: 1 charged (alleged, not proven), 1 pleaded guilty, 5 sentenced. The cases are dated from 2018 to 2026. They were brought in 7 distinct jurisdictions in 2 countries (Australia, United States). The median custodial sentence among the 5 sentenced cases with a recorded prison term (life, non-custodial and unrecorded terms are excluded) is 60 months (about 5.0 years). A status of charged is an accusation, not a finding of guilt.

In federal prosecutions the central statute is the Controlled Substances Act. Section 841 of Title 21 makes it unlawful to knowingly or intentionally manufacture, distribute, or dispense a controlled substance, or to possess one with intent to distribute it. Section 846 of the same title provides that attempting or conspiring to commit an offence defined in that part of the Act is punishable by the same penalties as the underlying offence. The penalties under section 841 depend on the substance and on the quantity involved, and they increase where the offence results in death or serious bodily injury.
Depending on the facts, indictments in this area can contain additional counts, such as conspiracy and other federal offences, and they may involve forfeiture of proceeds. The statutes linked below are the core drug-trafficking provisions only, and an individual entry reports the charges that its own sources describe.
States regulate and prosecute controlled substances under their own laws, with different schedules, thresholds, and penalties. Cases outside the United States follow the law of the prosecuting country, and a darknet-market investigation can involve more than one jurisdiction. This overview is general information and not legal advice, and it is not a statement about the guilt of any person listed on this page.
A case appears under darknet drugs only where there is a documented Reddit nexus. That means the defendant used Reddit to commit, coordinate, advertise, or first draw law-enforcement attention to the offence, or that a Reddit CyberTip, a subpoena response, or a direct report to the police or the FBI produced the charge. The bar is deliberately strict. A widely reported case is excluded unless the Reddit connection is documented in the charging papers, court records, or contemporaneous reporting; simply holding a Reddit account is not enough, and incidents that actually ran through Discord, Telegram, or other platforms are left out rather than stretched to fit.
The status shown on each entry reflects the newest official document the tracker has located, such as an indictment, a plea agreement, a verdict, or a sentencing judgment, and it can lag behind later developments. A status of charged records an accusation only: a charge is not a finding of guilt, and every person charged is presumed innocent unless and until convicted or until they plead guilty. Entries marked charged are therefore labelled as alleged. Victims are never named, and where a victim is described at all the description is limited to what is needed to understand the charge. If an entry is out of date, incomplete, or wrong, use the corrections page to report it.
This category is limited to cases whose central allegation is trafficking or selling controlled substances through a darknet market and in which the Reddit connection is documented. A darknet case without a documented Reddit link is not listed, and a case in which the drug element is incidental to another central allegation is listed under that allegation. Each case carries a single category, so a matter involving several kinds of conduct is listed on only one hub.
